How does heat affect playgrounds? Which spaces work best? What barriers prevent everyone from enjoying them?
Valencia City Council, through València Innovation Capital, has launched the “Heat, Camera… Action!” photography contest, inviting residents to capture how València’s playgrounds are experienced during the summer months and help imagine play spaces that are cooler, more accessible and better adapted to rising temperatures.
Organised by the i-team of València Innovation Capital—the city’s urban innovation team—as part of the “Jocs a la fresca” project, the competition turns photography into a citizen innovation tool to identify both opportunities for improvement and solutions that already exist in the city’s playgrounds.
Who can participate?
The competition is open to everyone: families, children, young people, carers, associations, schools, photographers, visual artists and anyone interested in contributing their perspective. Participants under the age of 18 may take part with the authorisation of their legal guardian.

How to participate
To take part, access the registration form by clicking the “Participate” button, complete your details, upload your photograph and include a short description explaining what the image shows.
Photographs must have been taken in València on or after 1 June 2026 and must relate to heat in playgrounds and accessibility. Images generated using artificial intelligence will not be accepted.

Calendar
- 1 August 2026: Call opens.
- 30 September 2026: Deadline for submitting photographs.
- October 2026: Announcement of the finalist and winning photographs.
Prizes
The finalist and winning photographs will be featured in an exhibition organised by València Innovation Capital and may also be published through its communication channels, always acknowledging the authorship of each image.
