Description
MixMatters is a project funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe programme. Its objective is to deploy and demonstrate an integrated system capable of separating and valorising three types of mixed bio-waste streams containing impurities from three agri-food industry sectors (wholesale markets, greenhouses and the food industry), transforming them into six high-value-added products.
This will be achieved through industrial symbiosis between bio-waste producers and technology partners, with the active participation of the bio-based industry and public authorities.
Pilots in Valencia
The project will implement the MixMatters Integrated System, consisting of a Separation Unit for the classification, separation and pre-conditioning of
raw materials, and a Valorisation Hub, a versatile biorefinery that combines a range of advanced technologies in a fixed facility to process and upgrade the streams separated in the Separation Unit, generating a portfolio of six high-value-added products. Las Naves will work in coordination with Mercavalencia on the Valencia pilot.

- Assessment of wholesale market waste streams and site conditions for detailed demonstration planning.
- Optimisation and demonstration of the separation unit using different mixed bio-waste streams.
