On Friday, the Local Governing Board approved the guidelines for grants aimed at promoting local climate action projects conceived and led by young people. The initiative is part of the “Youth and Climate Action Valencia 2026” program, which is linked to the Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF).

The call for proposals will allocate a maximum of 40,000 U.S. dollars—equivalent to approximately 34,800 euros— from the funding allocated to Valencia under this international program, launched by Bloomberg Philanthropies and administered by Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors. Although the amounts are stated in dollars to align with the figures set by the YCAF, the grants will be recognized and paid in euros. The equivalents have been calculated for informational purposes using the exchange rate of 1 U.S. dollar = 0.87 euros and may vary depending on the applicable exchange rate at the time.

The City Council has designated the Valencian Community Foundation for Strategic Promotion, Development, and Urban Innovation (Les Naus) as the entity responsible for the local administration of the call for proposals, which will be awarded through a competitive selection process.

Proposals must be implemented primarily within the municipal boundaries of Valencia and contribute to addressing the city’s climate challenges. Among its objectives are climate change mitigation and adaptation, strengthening urban resilience, raising environmental awareness, and increasing youth participation in the design and implementation of local solutions.

Initiatives may fall into four categories: adaptation to extreme heat, child well-being, and resilient urban spaces; inclusive preparedness and community networks for climate emergencies; climate governance, youth participation, and community resilience; and the blue economy, coastal protection, and youth climate action.

Youth-led organizations, entities serving young people, and legally established sponsoring or public-interest organizations that meet the requirements set forth in the guidelines are eligible to apply. The program is designed to support projects proposed, designed, and led by people between the ages of 15 and 24, in line with local climate priorities.

The amount of each grant will be determined based on the final evaluation of the projects. Proposals that score between 50 and 59.99 points may receive $1,000—approximately 870 euros—; those scoring between 60 and 79.99 points may receive $2,500—about 2,175 euros—; and those scoring between 80 and 100 points may receive $5,000—about 4,350 euros—. Projects with a score below 50 points will not be eligible for funding.
