The Valencia City Council has endorsed the 2026 edition of the València Game City and OWN – Open World Now programs. The Local Governing Board has authorized the Valencian Community Foundation for Strategic Promotion, Development, and Urban Innovation to award two grants, each in the amount of 150,000 euros, for the implementation and development of these two initiatives. As explained by Councilman Juan Carlos Caballero, spokesperson for the municipal government, the Board approved these two named grants at its meeting today in favor of the Valencian company Encome Games, through the signing of a collaboration agreement, to carry out both programs.

As Caballero noted, OWN—Open World Now 2026—will be held in the city from June 3 to 5. For its part, the València Game City 2026 program builds on the initiative that began in the city in 2024 and runs throughout the year. Under the framework of both agreements, Encome Games will develop programs centered on several key areas of action: support for studios and developers within the Valencian video game ecosystem, as well as training, mentoring, and specialized talent development programs (aimed at professionals, students, and individuals interested in the field of video games and XR technologies); and the organization and revitalization of the sector’s professional community through meetings, conferences, workshops, and networking sessions. Also included are initiatives to raise the ecosystem’s profile, foster networking, and enhance its positioning, aimed at strengthening the visibility of Valencia’s video game and immersive technology sector at the local, national, and international levels; as well as initiatives involving gamification, citizen participation, and engagement with the urban environment, through the design and development of experiences that integrate video games and immersive technologies into public spaces, cultural heritage, tourism, culture, and other social and urban innovation initiatives. Finally, the implementation of these agreements also includes participation in strategic trade shows and events in the field of video games and immersive technologies, to facilitate a coordinated presence of stakeholders from the Valencian ecosystem and contribute to positioning the city as a leader in this sector.
