  • The City Council, through València Innovation Capital and in partnership with València Game City, is collaborating on this international event taking place this weekend
  • The Valencia edition is organized by ADEVI and takes place at what is now its official venue in the city, Las Naves

The Valencia edition of the international Global Game Jam event is taking place this weekend at Las Naves, organized by the Association of Video Game Developers (ADEVI, formerly AEV), in collaboration with the City Council, through València Innovation Capital, and València Game City.

Paula Llobet, Councilwoman for Innovation, Tourism, and Investment Attraction, stated that “this event, beyond the creation of a video game, fosters cooperation and creativity, as participants are working as a team.” “At València Innovation Capital, we promote a video game industry that embraces values beyond mere entertainment, and Game Jams are known precisely for helping to forge new friendships, build trust, and create opportunities within the development community,” the councilwoman added.

Starting at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, registered participants began working in groups to create a video game, which must be completed within a maximum of 48 hours. The teams of gamers are made up of members with backgrounds in various disciplines, such as programming, design, music, and digital arts. In addition to serving as a positive and educational experience in the video game development sector, the event encourages participants to form work groups where they must cooperate to bring their idea to life, fostering professional and teamwork synergies that they can leverage in their future careers.

The organization has invited several mentors from various educational institutions and universities specializing in video games, who offer their support to participants as they develop their projects. The video games are created in response to an international challenge.

The Global Game Jam, now in its 16th consecutive year, is an international event where game developers from around the world gather at various locations across the globe to create games in 48 hours. In previous years, approximately 40,000 creators participated, developing nearly 7,600 video games worldwide at 800 venues in 108 different countries.
