Up to 222 schools from the city of València and across the Valencian Community have been invited to take part in this technology entrepreneurship programme, whose launch event will take place next Saturday from 9:45 a.m. at the Assembly Hall of the School of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering (ETSIAMN) at the Universitat Politècnica de València.
Las Naves is sponsoring the event, which aims to foster scientific and technological vocations among girls and young women while promoting one of the challenges contributing to València’s Climate Mission and its European Green Capital ambitions.
The 2024 edition of the Technovation Girls technology entrepreneurship programme arrives in València next Saturday, bringing together hundreds of students aged 8 to 18 from schools across the Valencian Community. A total of 222 schools from València and other municipalities throughout the region have been invited to participate in the event, where students learn to work as a team, develop programming skills, and strengthen their interest in technology and entrepreneurship. In the Valencian Community, the programme is led and promoted by Talent Growth Management (TGMBP).
Teams, which may be all-female or mixed but must always be led by a girl, are supported by a mentor throughout the process of designing and developing a mobile application that addresses a social challenge. Participants also conduct market research, prepare a marketing strategy, and develop a sustainable business plan before presenting their projects to a jury made up of professionals from the programme’s partner organisations and companies.
The launch event will be hosted by the Universitat Politècnica de València and American Space Valencia – U.S. Embassy, with the participation of the València City Council and Las Naves.
A Challenge to Make València a More Sustainable City
The València City Council is sponsoring the programme for the third consecutive year through its Innovation Department, specifically within the areas of Technological Sovereignty, ICT Promotion and STEAM. In addition, since last year’s edition, Las Naves has been responsible for promoting one of the programme’s challenges: the one supporting València’s Climate Mission and its Green Capital goals for 2024.
This challenge will reward the technological solution that makes the greatest contribution to a greener and more sustainable València. Students will therefore develop ideas focused on topics such as improving the city’s green spaces, protecting the Albufera Natural Park, preserving the Valencian orchard (L’Horta), promoting sustainable mobility, as well as addressing sustainability challenges related to the Fallas festival, marathons, tourism, and other areas.
Paula Llobet, Councillor for Innovation at the València City Council, highlighted that “Technovation Girls is another example of our commitment to equality and to encouraging scientific and technological careers among girls and young women. At the same time, this programme provides an opportunity for students to learn about our Climate Mission and contribute ideas that will help us design a greener and more sustainable city. The ideas of young people are essential because they represent the future of València.”
María José Valero, CEO of Talent Growth Management and Technovation Girls CV Ambassador, added: “We work to break down the biases, labels and barriers that still exist in technology and entrepreneurship, where gender inequalities remain particularly significant. Innovation comes from different perspectives, especially those of our young people.”
As mentioned, the Technovation Girls launch event will take place next Saturday from 9:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Assembly Hall of the School of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering (ETSIAMN) at the Universitat Politècnica de València.
