Valencia Promotes Women in Technology Through ‘The Break’ Program on Global Entrepreneurship Day

  • About twenty female entrepreneurs are participating in this year’s program, and 40 women have already completed the program
  • The initiative, launched in partnership with EOI, reinforces Valencia’s position as a leader in social innovation and women’s leadership

Coinciding with World Entrepreneurship Day, the city of Valencia hosted the second edition of “The Break,” a program aimed at women entrepreneurs leading impact projects, which seeks to strengthen their initiatives through the local innovation ecosystem. The welcome session took place at Las Naves, while the program will continue at La Harinera, consolidating both venues as key hubs of innovation in the city.

Paula Llobet, the Valencia City Council’s Councilor for Tourism, Innovation, and Investment Attraction, welcomed the participants, about twenty female entrepreneurs who join those from the first edition, bringing the total to 40 talented women with a drive for change who have participated in this initiative. During her remarks, Llobet emphasized that “at the Valencia City Council, through Valencia Innovation Capital, we believe in women’s entrepreneurial talent in technology as a driver of change. That is why we promote programs like this one, so that you can develop your projects with an international network of professional women who will support you over the long term, creating real opportunities for growth and collaboration.”

The program, organized in partnership with EOI, will run for 14 weeks and includes more than 100 hours of training and specialized mentoring at La Harinera. In addition, it incorporates an international dimension with a two-week stay in Vienna, where participants will be able to connect with one of Europe’s most dynamic entrepreneurial ecosystems, broaden their horizons, and generate new opportunities for collaboration.

Llobet also emphasized that “with this second edition of ‘The Break,’ Valencia is establishing itself as a city that promotes women’s leadership and innovation through cutting-edge tech entrepreneurship.”

“The Break” is part of the València Innovation Capital strategy, which is committed to developing an inclusive, connected, and impactful entrepreneurial ecosystem, positioning the city as a leading hub for talent and innovation at the national and international levels.

Promoting Technology Entrepreneurship

This program is part of València Innovation Capital’s comprehensive strategy to promote technological entrepreneurship, which combines its own programs with those carried out in collaboration with third parties.

Notable in-house programs include EOI Coworking (AI, Gaming, and Inclusive Impact), Agro·lab, EOI The Break, Seed Startup Program, Early Stage Startup Program, and the GovTech accelerator, among others. In collaboration with other partners, initiatives such as the Cybersecurity Startup Program (with Startup València and INCIBE), SKYLAB (Valencia Chamber of Commerce, CEEI, and Startup Valencia), and Climate Launchpad (EIT Climate-KIC and AVAESEN) are being developed.

Over the past year, this initiative by València Innovation Capital has helped support 80 startups and benefit 237 entrepreneurs, 162 of whom have used hot-desk workspaces at La Farinera, that is, flexible, shared workstations within the facility that facilitate collaborative work, networking, and access to the ecosystem’s services.
