- via a new collaboration agreement between Valencia Innovation Capital and ENCOM GAMES to deliver the programme in 2025
- Backed by a €150,000 grant, the initiative further strengthens Valencia’s position as a leading hub for innovation, technology and the creative economy
The Valencia City Council has reaffirmed its commitment to the video game industry as a strategic sector for the city by renewing the collaboration agreement between the Valencia Innovation Capital Foundation and ENCOM GAMES for the delivery of the València Game City programme in 2025.
The agreement, supported by a municipal grant of €150,000, aims to continue building a strong, innovative and competitive ecosystem around the video game and esports industries. This is a sector with enormous transformative potential, not only in economic terms but also in its ability to generate talent, drive innovation and foster social cohesion.
“This programme once again demonstrates our commitment to the city and to the people who live here”, said Paula Llobet, Councillor for Innovation, Tourism and Investment Attraction. “It will make Valencia an attractive destination for gaming enthusiasts while promoting social inclusion, diversity and, of course, technological development through a sector with enormous potential”.
Over the past year, València Game City has established itself as a pioneering initiative in Spain, promoting public-private collaboration and bringing together a network of projects and initiatives that position the city as a Mediterranean benchmark for the creative economy, technological innovation and digital entertainment.
Once again, the programme will be centred around La Harinera, Valencia’s municipal innovation and technology entrepreneurship hub, which serves as the physical headquarters and main activity centre for the professional, academic and wider community connected to the sector.
Key areas of action for 2025 include:
-Video game startup acceleration programmes, developed in collaboration with organisations such as the Spanish School of Industrial Organisation (EOI), to strengthen the emerging business ecosystem.
-Internationalisation initiatives to help local studios and projects expand into global markets and increase their international visibility.
-Attracting international video game companies by promoting Valencia as an attractive destination for business establishment and growth.
-Building partnerships with leading international gaming and digital economy hubs to create synergies, exchange knowledge and develop joint projects.
-Further development of the city’s esports circuit, with a strong focus on education, community engagement and professional competition.
-Outreach, training and community activities, including València Interactive Meetups, Technical Conferences, València Game City Challenges and València International Video Game Week, among other initiatives.
The agreement also promotes video games as a tool for social inclusion, cultural diversity and innovation in sectors such as experiential tourism, education and healthcare, aligning the programme with the major urban and societal challenges of the 21st century.
With this renewed partnership, Valencia not only reinforces its commitment to a high-growth industry but also strengthens its collaborative governance model, where public institutions, private organisations and citizens work together to build a more creative, innovative and future-oriented city.
