- The City Council and València Silicon Cluster (VaSiC) sign a strategic agreement to boost the semiconductor sector and attract international talent and investment
- The partnership includes specialized forums, an international presence, and a potential accelerator at La Harinera for startups in the fields of microchips, photonics, and quantum computing
The Valencia City Council and the industrial association Valencia Silicon Cluster (VaSiC) have signed a key collaboration agreement to strengthen the city’s microchip sector and position Valencia as a national and international technology leader. This strategic agreement will remain in effect until December 2027 and is part of the municipal strategy “València Innovation Capital,” which aims to promote knowledge, innovation, and high-value-added entrepreneurship.
The agreement sets out an ambitious roadmap: organizing technology forums in Valencia, playing a prominent role in international events such as SEMICON Europe, developing campaigns to raise the profile of the Valencian tech ecosystem, and promoting public-private partnerships at all levels. To implement this, the City Council will allocate 50,000 euros annually and coordinate these efforts with its strategy for digitalization and attracting investment. This was agreed upon on Friday by the Local Governing Board of the Valencia City Council.
Paula Llobet, Councilor for Innovation, Technology, the Digital Agenda, and Investment Attraction, emphasized that “this agreement is a decisive step toward establishing Valencia as a cutting-edge technology hub. “The collaboration with Valencia Silicon Cluster allows us to create a robust ecosystem centered on microchips, generating economic opportunities and high-quality jobs. We are committed to making Valencia a magnet for companies and professionals in the global semiconductor sector.”
For her part, VaSiC President Mayte Bacete stated that “this agreement with the Valencia City Council is essential. It will allow us to strengthen collaboration among key players in the ecosystem, drive innovation, and raise awareness of the unique capabilities we have in the Valencian Community, where we already account for a very significant percentage of the nation’s talent in microelectronics and photonics. Together, we will work to attract new projects and consolidate our leadership.”
The agreement also paves the way for a future startup accelerator focused on key technologies such as microchips, photonics, and quantum computing, to be based at the municipal facility La Harinera.
With organizations such as MaxLinear, Analog Devices, amsOSRAM, BOSCH, and Valencia’s public universities among its members, VaSiC represents the country’s largest concentration of talent in this sector. The collaboration with the City Council now aims to turn that potential into a competitive advantage for all of Europe.
