BioSoilutions

The BioSoilutions project aims to reduce soil degradation and improve the management of organic waste generated by the city and its surrounding areas. To achieve this, the project will increase the use of soil improvers, reduce dependence on chemical fertilisers, and promote circular economy practices.

LOGOS

Description

This Horizon Europe project provides sustainable alternatives derived from biological waste through a circular economy approach. Within the framework of the project, partners are validating and optimising four value chains to produce at least five market-ready soil solutions derived from biological waste.

The project’s Living Labs are located in Flanders, Valencia, and Murcia.

Pilots in Valencia

BioSoilutions develops four waste valorisation pathways to create soil improvers from animal blood, municipal organic waste, and two chemical compounds recovered from wastewater treatment plants (N-struvite and K-struvite).

Soil degradation is considered a global emergency. Between 60% and 70% of soils in the European Union are degraded due to unsustainable management practices and the excessive use of synthetic chemicals.

In Valencia, a Living Lab focused on soil health is being implemented.
