Valencia Brings Together the Agri-Food Ecosystem for a Conference on Soil Health

The GREENNOMED Living Lab València event was held at Las Naves as part of the European BioSoilutions project, in which our city participates, to promote innovative solutions in regenerative agriculture and soil resilience

The initiative promotes knowledge transfer and applied innovation to improve the health of Mediterranean soils and the implementation of circular biofertilizers

Valencia, May 19, 2026.—The City of Valencia, through Valencia Innovation Capital and in collaboration with CETENMA, held the “Living Lab Valencia + GREENNOMED” conference, as part of the European BioSoilutions project, which focuses on developing innovative solutions to improve soil health and facilitate the transition to more sustainable agricultural models.

The event, held at Las Naves, brought together representatives from the public sector, businesses, startups, research centers, the agricultural community, and the general public with the goal of co-create solutions that will enable progress toward a more climate-resilient agriculture, reducing dependence on external inputs and improving the quality of Mediterranean soils.

Paula Llobet, the councilor for Innovation, noted that “these types of initiatives help connect scientific research with the region’s real needs, accelerating the introduction of innovative solutions to the agri-food sector.” Llobet also emphasized that “collaboration among government agencies, universities, businesses, and the primary sector is essential for moving toward a more sustainable, regenerative, and competitive agricultural model. Valencia’s participation in the BioSoilutions project reinforces the city’s commitment to promoting innovation applied to the region, connecting science, business, and the primary sector to address the challenges of the agroecological transition.”

Circular Biofertilizers

The BioSoilutions project is part of the European Living Labs initiative and promotes the development and validation of circular biofertilizers and solutions based on biotechnology applied to soil. Its goal is to improve fertility, microbial biodiversity, and the ability of agricultural soils to adapt to extreme weather conditions.

During the event, a roundtable discussion was held on circularity in the Valencian agri-food system and the challenges posed by dependence on imported fertilizers, with the participation of experts from the fields of research, agricultural production, and business innovation.

In addition, a participatory session was held as part of the project to co-create services for the Valencian Living Lab, as well as to present innovative solutions for improving soil health and reducing the environmental impact of agriculture.

The day concluded with a technical visit to the Cajamar Foundation’s Experimental Station in Paiporta, where projects currently in the validation phase related to sustainable agriculture and soil quality improvement were presented.
