𝐒𝐏𝐎𝐎𝐍 Stirring change together is a European project that seeks to empower people to transform food systems. We believe that, to achieve lasting change, communities must be part of the solution.
That is why we connect citizens with organizations and researchers to promote a shift in habits and create a more just and sustainable food future.
How do we do it?
Through Citizen Science, where people actively contribute to research and decision-making, helping to shape food systems that reflect their daily lives and real needs.

SPOON

The main objective of the SPOON project is to drive the transition toward sustainable food systems through the strategic use of citizen science and digital tools.
The initiative is part of the broader objectives and strategies of Horizon Europe, addressing critical issues such as food security, sustainable food production, and citizen empowerment, while contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
SPOON’s conceptual framework revolves around the establishment of six laboratories across Europe, selected for their distinct local contexts and sustainability challenges, which will be implemented in the cities of Braunschweig (Germany), Thessaloniki (Greece), Turin (Italy), Bruges (Belgium), the Pomurje region (Slovenia), and Valencia.
Pilot project in València
In our city, we are adressing several key issues, including the consumption of local products and food waste, overall waste generation, and the promotion of organic and locally produced agriculture. We also aim to strengthen local markets and integrate the principles of sustainable and healthy eating into programs designed to improve public health and dietary habits.
To achieve this, we will collaborate with organizations within the Valencian ecosystem that are committed to advancing a more sustainable, healthy, and equitable local food system through a food rights-based approach. We will also work with civil society organizations that support individuals experiencing food insecurity in Valencia.
SPOON’s main objectives are to deepen scientific understanding of food environments, enhance policymakers’ capacity to make evidence-based decisions, foster cross-sector collaboration, and empower citizens to adopt healthier and more sustainable food consumption behaviors while contributing to the improvement of local food environments.
